Food/Groceries

Across the road directly opposite the property is a Co-Op Supermarket selling food, alcohol, toiletries etc.

Take-away Food

When you're too busy to cook you'll find a selection of cuisines available from nearby take-aways - chinese, indian or traditional fish and chips.

Other Shops

As well as the supermarket, a few hundred metres down the road is a fishing tackle shop, windsurfing/watersports shop, sandwich bar, pharmacy and several convenience stores.

Travel

Portland Road leads to Portland in one direction and Weymouth in the other, so finding your way when driving is simple. The property is also on a regular bus route from Portland to Weymouth and back, running every 7 minutes or so throughout the day, and late busses until around midnight. A bus stop is about 50 metres away. There are also several excellent 24 hour taxi services in the area.

Nightlife

Nearby there is a large family pub and also a Working Mans Club. A short bus or taxi ride to Weymouth town centre offers a host of bars and late licence nightclubs to suit all tastes.

Weymouth Beach

Known as "England's Bay of Naples", Weymouth is one of the south coasts premiere seaside resorts, boasting a long sweeping beach with fine sand at one end and pebbles at the other. The beach lies in a sheltered bay and so is safe for swimming. The resort originally became popular due to the patronage of King George III, who made bathing in the sea here a fashionable health treatment.

Sailing

Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy will be host to the sailing events in the 2012 Olympic Games, which should be an indication of the quality you can expect. The Academy operates a successful sailing school, and an active members club catering for all abilities from complete beginners to Olympic medallists. Facilities on shore include a licensed clubhouse, conference/ meeting rooms, slipways, a boat hoist, extensive dinghy and car parks, a permanent crane, and storage for all types of boats.

Windsurfing and Kite-Surfing

Portland harbour has ideal conditions for both windsurfing and, for the more adventurous, kite-surfing, and practitioners of both can be seen on most days throughout the year. Courses and equipment hire are available.

Diving

The waters around Weymouth and Portland offer some of the best diving locations in the UK. There are hundreds of wrecks and reefs to explore, and many dive boats and related businesses providing all the facilities required for divers of all levels, from first-timers to experts.

Walking

Weymouth and Portland's stunning coastline is a World Heritage Site - the "Jurrassic Coast" contains rock features that record 185 million years of Earth's history, a timeline that is exposed in the geology of the area. A great site for fossil hunters, many discoveries have been made here.

Sandsfoot

15 minutes walk away is the ruin of Sandsfoot Castle, a spectacular coastal fort situated in large public gardens. Sandsfoot beach can be found below.

Chesil Beach

Chesil beach is an 18 mile long stretch of pebbled beach. It is the largest tombolo in the UK, reaching from the Isle of Portland to West Bay near Bridport.
